OpenAI and the Gates Foundation are providing funding, technology and technical support for the project, which aims to bring AI tools into 1,000 primary care clinics by 2028.
The goal is to help doctors and nurses work faster, reduce paperwork, understand medical guidelines and spend more time treating patients. That could matter enormously in sub Saharan Africa, where the healthcare system faces a shortage of roughly 5.6 million workers.
The project is designed to show how advanced AI can help clinics, doctors and families in communities that need more medical support.
For Altman, it is another example of using one of the world’s most powerful technologies for global philanthropy and healthcare.
