Jewish Billionaire David Ellison Will Keep Pro-Israel Journalist Bari Weiss To Lead CBS News Ahead of The $110 Billion Merger

The company announced Monday that Weiss will remain CBS News editor-in-chief. Mark Thompson will continue leading CNN.

Both news chiefs will report directly to Ellison and Israeli co-CEO Ynon Kreiz, placing them on the combined company’s top news leadership team.

Weiss, who co-founded The Free Press and wrote How to Fight Anti-Semitism, took over CBS News in 2025. Today’s announcement confirms she will keep that role after the merger, which is expected to close Tuesday.
