Jewish Congressman Steve Cohen of Tennessee introduced legislation Thursday that would remove mariju8na from the federal Controlled Substances Act. The proposal goes beyond easing restrictions and would end its prohibition under that law. It has not passed, and state restrictions would still matter. The bill would also eliminate mandatory minimum dr0g sentences based on dr0g weight and make scientific research easier. Cohen said America’s dr0g policies need a major overhaul, arguing that harsh sentences have disproportionately harmed minorities. The measure would preserve enforcement tools against major dr0g traffickers.

The NYPD has dropped plans to directly award Israeli company Cognyte a roughly $750,000 contract for technology that locates cellphones. The change followed criticism from privacy advocates and progressive politicians, including allies of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who warned the system could be used to monitor protesters. Police said the purchase did not qualify for a contract without competing bids. Cognyte can still compete for the deal, meaning its technology has not been banned. The proposed three year purchase included equipment, training and support for police investigations.

Jewish billionaire Sam Altman is urging companies to make protecting their systems from AI threats their immediate priority, ahead of using the technology to get more work done. Speaking at Oracle AI World in Las Vegas, the OpenAI CEO said he was shocked by how many software security flaws AI systems were uncovering. Those weaknesses could give attackers ways into company systems. Altman said fixing every flaw individually would be too difficult and called for services that continuously monitor activity and stop attacks. Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk said AI was exposing security problems built into software over decades.
