The Khosla family is leading the purchase and will control the team. Vinod Khosla will serve as chairman, his wife Neeru will be the controlling owner, and their son Neal will become vice chairman. Pritzker is one of several investors joining them as co-owners, although the size of her personal investment and ownership share were not disclosed.
NFL owners unanimously approved the purchase on August 26, and the sale officially closed on September 3. The $9.612 billion price is the largest ever paid for an NFL team, easily beating the previous record of $6.05 billion paid for the Washington Commanders in 2023.
The late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen purchased the Seahawks for only $194 million in 1997. His estate is now selling the team for nearly 50 times that amount, with proceeds from his assets directed toward charitable causes under the plans he left before his death.
Pritzker is worth approximately $4.6 billion and belongs to the Jewish family behind Hyatt Hotels. She previously served as U.S. Commerce Secretary under President Barack Obama, founded the investment company PSP Partners and currently sits on Microsoft’s board.
She now adds ownership of one of America’s most valuable sports teams to that powerful résumé. The Seahawks recently captured their second Super Bowl championship and will begin their title defense against the New England Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl LX.
