Cuban made the comments during a recent appearance on the Pivot podcast with Kara Swisher. The wide-ranging interview covered business, healthcare, artificial intelligence, taxes and politics before turning to whether Cuban could eventually seek the White House.
Cuban has not announced a presidential campaign and continues to say he is not currently planning to run. But when discussing what a potential campaign would look like, he said he would run as a Republican, adding, “I can’t win as a Democrat.”
The billionaire has long described himself as politically independent and has supported candidates from both parties. Earlier in 2026, he also said that running as a Republican could be “more fun,” while discussing the possibility of a future presidential campaign.
Cuban, who became a billionaire after selling Broadcast Dot Com to Yahoo and later became one of America’s most recognizable business figures, has repeatedly been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate. His latest comments make clear that if he ever does make the jump into the 2028 race, the Republican Party could be his path to the White House.
