Kremer won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on practical ways to reduce global poverty.
His research has helped shape major programs in healthcare, education, farming and vaccines. Work connected to his research helped lead to around 2 billion deworming treatments for children, while other programs influenced by his work have reached tens of millions of people.
As World Bank Chief Economist, Kremer will help guide global economic research and policy affecting developing countries around the world.
He will officially begin the role on October 1, marking a historic first for both the World Bank and a Jewish Nobel Prize winner.
