Millennium bought more than 17.6 million SpaceX shares during the second quarter of 2026, according to its latest holdings disclosure. At around SpaceX’s IPO price, that amount of stock would be valued at roughly $3 billion, although Millennium’s exact purchase price has not been disclosed.

The timing makes the investment especially notable. Englander bought the shares before SpaceX’s first major lockup expiration on August 6, when roughly 912 million shares held by insiders became eligible to be sold. Some investors feared the sudden availability of so many shares could push SpaceX’s stock lower.

That major sell-off did not materialize as expected. Another 319 million SpaceX shares are scheduled to become eligible for sale on August 20, putting the company through another test just two months after its IPO.

Englander founded Millennium Management in 1989 and built it into one of the world’s largest hedge funds. His firm’s purchase makes it one of the major institutional investors betting on SpaceX’s future growth in satellite internet, space technology and other businesses.
