Simon was scheduled to perform at The Banshee Labyrinth during the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, but the venue cancelled his show after saying his views on the Gaza war conflicted with its position.

Simon said he had never supported anything beyond freeing the Israeli hostages and finding a path to peace, and said at the time he felt he was being cancelled “just for being Jewish.”

Simon took the venue’s owner, Morrison Bros Ltd, to court, accusing it of illegal discrimination. Now, a year later, the venue has admitted in court that it discriminated against him and violated Britain’s Equality Act.

The judge said the venue had acted “unreasonably” by waiting until shortly before the hearing to admit discrimination and ordered it to cover certain legal expenses at a higher rate.

Simon said the case was never about money, but about fighting the idea that a performer can be cancelled because of their religion.
