The company said preorders for GTA 6 have had an “exceptional start” since opening in June. Take-Two did not reveal how many copies have already been ordered, but the game is expected to generate billions of dollars and become one of the largest entertainment releases of the year.
Take-Two is now expecting between $8 billion and $8.2 billion in bookings for the full fiscal year. During its latest quarter, the company generated $1.39 billion in bookings, slightly higher than Wall Street expected.
The massive expectations come from the success of the previous game. GTA 5 has sold nearly 230 million copies since 2013, making it one of the best-selling video games ever. Its online version has also continued making money for Take-Two more than a decade after the original release.
For Zelnick and Take-Two, the November launch could become the company’s biggest moment ever, with investors now watching to see how much GTA 6 can earn in its first days and whether a new online version can continue generating billions for years afterward.
