The biggest boost came from Eliquis, the blood thinner Pfizer sells with Bristol Myers Squibb. Sales jumped 21% to $2.43 billion, well above expectations. Cancer drug Padcev also performed strongly, with sales rising 23% to $667 million during the quarter.
Pfizer now expects to bring in between $60.5 billion and $62.5 billion this year. Bourla said the company’s newer medicines and products gained through major acquisitions are performing well, helping Pfizer build its next stage of growth.
At the same time, Pfizer plans another $2.5 billion in cost cuts, bringing its total expected savings to $9.7 billion by 2029. The company still faces pressure from lower COVID sales and older drugs losing protection, but the latest results show that Bourla’s plan is beginning to strengthen one of the world’s largest drug companies.
