The new 55-story, 2 World Trade Center will become the last commercial skyscraper built on the original Twin Towers site. Once completed in 2031, it will serve as the global headquarters of American Express and rise 1,226 feet above Lower Manhattan.
Silverstein’s company, Silverstein Properties, has led the rebuilding of the World Trade Center since acquiring a long-term lease for the complex just weeks before the September 11 attacks in 2001. Over the past two decades, the company has helped transform Ground Zero into one of the world’s largest redevelopment projects.
The new tower is expected to create more than 3,200 jobs and generate approximately $6 billion in economic activity for New York City, according to city officials.
Calling the project the final chapter in rebuilding the World Trade Center, Silverstein Properties said the tower represents the completion of a vision that began after one of the darkest days in American history, restoring the New York skyline with a modern symbol of resilience and growth.
