Jewish billionaire and Trump envoy Steve Witkoff faces an extra $101,000 a year in taxes on his Manhattan apartment under New York’s luxury second-home tax, backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Known officially as the pied-à-terre tax, it adds a yearly charge to qualifying luxury properties whose owners have their main home outside New York City. It targets expensive second homes, rather than everyone who earns a million dollars.
Witkoff has listed Miami Beach as his primary residence since 2019. Separately, he lost a $24,000 annual tax discount on the Manhattan apartment and repaid nearly $78,000 for years he wasn’t eligible. His representatives said he didn’t know he was receiving the discount; his lawyer blamed a gap in the reporting process.
The new $101,000 surcharge alone would more than double his existing property-tax bill, the report says.
