Israeli drugmaker Teva has developed a new schizophrenia treatment that delivers a full month of medicine through one injection, giving American adults an alternative to taking this medicine every day after winning FDA approval Friday.

Called Weltruza, the treatment uses olanzapine, an established schizophrenia medicine, in a new monthly shot given under the skin. Teva developed it with French biotech company Medincell, and clinical trials showed improvements in patients’ symptoms and daily functioning.

For patients who struggle to remember daily pills, the monthly injection could make it easier to stay on treatment. Teva expects it to become available in America in the coming weeks.
