Jewish billionaire Steven Lavin’s family foundation is donating $30 million to Hebrew University of Jerusalem to establish a new center focused on training more doctors and improving medical education in Israel. The university announced the donation October 13.
The Center for Advanced Medical Education will help prepare future doctors to use artificial intelligence while strengthening practical judgment, patient communication and compassionate care. Its goal is to help medical schools train more physicians without lowering standards.
Lavin chairs OSI Group, one of the world’s largest food-processing companies. Forbes estimates his family’s fortune at $4.3 billion. The donation comes through the family’s Sheba Foundation.
The family previously donated $18 million to establish a Hebrew University food-systems research center honoring his father, Sheldon Lavin, continuing a family commitment to strengthening Israel through education and research.
