Jewish billionaire Jeff Yass and his wife, Janine, donated $600,000 this week to three Philadelphia schools and education programs through their Yass Prize initiative, supporting students who need more opportunities and personal attention.

Salt and Light Academy for Boys received $500,000, while Girard College and Cooking4Autism received $50,000 each. Girard serves children from financially struggling families, and Cooking4Autism teaches cooking and everyday life skills to students with autism and other learning differences.

The awards were presented Tuesday at Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center as part of a nationwide round of more than $6 million in education grants from the couple’s initiative.
