Israeli military veteran Moshe Cohen’s company, Ciconia, has built a system that warns helicopter pilots about nearby aircraft and tells them which way to fly to avoid a collision.

California helicopter operator HeliStream is expected to install it after a successful demonstration in August.

The technology addresses a major danger during firefighting missions, when helicopters, planes and drones share crowded skies. Pilots must avoid each other while dealing with smoke, wind and the fire below.

HeliStream’s chief pilot tested the system and praised it, saying the company is eager to use it.

Cohen previously commanded Israeli Air Force Cobra and Apache helicopter squadrons. The price and installation dates have not been announced.
