The factory will supply drones to the Serbian military and could also produce them for armed forces in other countries. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said the plant will employ about 100 people and called the drones state of the art.
The project is tied to Israeli defense giant Elbit Systems and Serbia’s state owned arms company Yugoimport SDPR. Earlier reporting said Elbit would hold a majority stake in the joint venture.
For Israel, the bigger story is that its military technology is no longer just being exported. It is now being built inside another European country for use by multiple militaries.
Serbia has also said this is only the beginning, with more defense production projects involving Israeli partners planned ahead.
