The proposed package includes roughly 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. It has already been informally shared with congressional committees that review major U.S. arms sales, but it is not yet a finalized deal.
The sale would go through America’s Foreign Military Sales system. Israel also receives $3.3 billion a year in U.S. military financing, which can be used to buy American weapons, so this does not necessarily mean Israel is paying the full $2.8 billion directly from its own treasury.
If approved, the package would significantly expand Israel’s stockpile of heavy American-made munitions.
