The enormous project would help produce electricity for America’s rapidly expanding artificial-intelligence data centers. A separate natural-gas power plant in Texas, reportedly costing around $20 billion, is also being discussed.
The proposal grows out of President Donald Trump’s larger trade agreement requiring South Korea to invest $350 billion in America in exchange for lower tariffs on Korean products.
Jewish Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has been one of America’s central officials in negotiations over how South Korea’s investment money will be used.
The $100 billion proposal is not final. South Korea says the figures and projects remain under negotiation and would be developed over several years.
