Alfredo Lopez was dismissed by Argentina’s Council of the Magistracy after officials reviewed more than a dozen of his social media posts. Among them, Lopez referred to Jews as “rats and vipers” and questioned whether Jewish Argentinians were truly Argentine.

The judicial body determined that Lopez’s repeated attacks on the Jewish community and Israel violated the impartiality expected from a federal judge. He was removed for poor performance and gross misconduct.

The decision is especially significant in Argentina, which is home to roughly 170,000 Jews - the largest Jewish community in Latin America.

The historic removal comes as Argentina has developed increasingly close ties with Israel under President Javier Milei, who has repeatedly spoken out against antisemitism and positioned his government as a strong supporter of Israel.
