The company, Skapion, is developing a new mobile defense system that can detect, track and destroy large groups of drones attacking at the same time. Unlike many existing air defense systems, the technology is designed to stop cheap drones launched in huge numbers, a growing threat seen on battlefields across the Middle East and Europe.
The funding round was led by major investors including UP. Partners and Khosla Ventures. The new investment will help the company expand its engineering team, speed up development and test the system with government and military partners in Israel, the United States and other allied countries.
Skapion says today’s drone warfare has changed dramatically. Instead of expensive missiles, enemies are increasingly using large numbers of low-cost drones that can overwhelm traditional air defense systems. The company believes a new generation of defense technology is needed to match this growing threat.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., with its research and development center in Ramat Gan, Israel, Skapion aims to provide military forces and critical infrastructure with a faster, smarter and more affordable way to defend against future drone swarm attacks.
